I went on a cruise for the new year. I took my new moleskin what a greaty sketchbook it pretty much handles everything. Here are some quick sketches and water colors of maimi were we sailed off and some drawings inside and outside of the ship.

A long Time

Yes it's been a long time, but I have been in a crisis at the house hold. If you ever see this book momscancer you will understand, but it happened to my father. He's in good spirits which is a great thing; we take it day by day. I am still doing art as much as I can, see the tribute to my father. I also added some links to the side bar, I hope to continue with this blog more frequently.

So me and my very significant other "Hilde" got away for our valentines weekend. We landed up in the small town of Lake Geneva Wisconsin, so cool. We stayed at the Grand Geneva resort a very swanky nice place. Stood there for 3 days, Not much to do in the winter time except ski but we didn't do any of that; most of our time was staying in and enjoying the resort plus eating out. One thing I noticed was that almost every place we ate or went to there was some kind of dead animal hanging on the walls. Some shops had deer heads and some kind of animal skulls hanging. It was trippy any way here are some quick sketches.

Body worlds

Here is a drawing I did this past summer at an exhibition called Body Worlds. If you ever get a chance to see this exhibit, be prepared to draw. There is so much to see, I drew this 6 week old infant. Awesome, I just wished I could have drawn more but it was so crowded, I couldn't really see anything. I went to see it on the last day. The museum was holding a marathon showing all night long. I drew this at three in the morning. The lines were crazy; people were all over the place trying to get a glimpse at real human bodies set up in all different positions, kinda creepy and beautiful at the same time. Just Do it

I hate days like these were my motivation just slips away. I need to get out of that funk, I been reading a good book lately the The War of Art, Break through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles. Yea I know a really cheesy title but it's a good book. Basically it talks about how resistance usually is the culprit of ending any creative endeavor. How to invoke the muse. It’s a good book and for twelve bucks can’t beat the price. So in me trying to break this habit I needed to just start doing some kind of art. Have to keep moving and do something, I painted what was on my computer desk at the moment. Felt good just to do something. Like I always tell my friend Dave “Just Do It,” Of course from the awful but somewhat makes sense Nike tag line.

kinda funny

I posted the last painting I did on certain forums and I received critiques about it, mostly they said that it needed improvements like more looseness, proportions; also that I should paint from life. So I posted the figure drawings that I did from life, now they can’t believe it’s the same person. I think that’s funny, both were done at different times in my life. My response was basically

“I think there is something to say about using your imagination or trying to develop one. I know some people who can be in front of the model or reference and produce great art but take that away from them and only rely on imagination, well they become lost, also yes you have those great people who can do both. That’s what the painting was straight from my head. I think you have to develop both only than you can be at your best, and of course you have to learn the fundamentals before you can produce anything of substance. So if you can’t paint with a brush you can’t paint with a machine, its one big learning process.”

So you take from the critique what you want and move on, here are the life drawings.

So here we are again, I started a sculpting class at the Palette and chisel academy; a cool place that has art 7 days a week. Besides all the classes they have open studio sessions, bascially there is a model posing 7 days out of the week and you can paint the model, draw, or sculpt. Pretty cool place, and if you become a member you get keys to the place where you can use there studios. Check out the link www.paletteandchisel.org.
